NAME OF SCHOLARSHIP: Hung Phi Tieu and Lan Thuy Vuong Scholarship
DESCRIPTION: This ScholarFund Program was established to help students start early on thinking about college, becoming familiar with college application and scholarship processes and building a college savings plan.
DONOR’S STORY: I grew up in Bayou La Batre and eventually became a successful media executive in New York City. When I was asked to come to speak to Alba students, I wanted to talk about going to college but realized there was a gap. Some students were not even thinking of finishing high school. Some said their families could never afford college. And some students wanted to go to college, but didn’t know what colleges were really looking for and what the process was like. I wanted to create a scholarship that allowed students to realize sooner rather than later that 1) aid is out there 2) what it is like to apply and 3) understand the steps it would take to go to college. This scholarship is named after my parents who instilled my value of education.
